Hey Everyone, This is Dither from the Restless crew! I’ve been working on some of my own music for a little while now, and I’m happy to say that I’m finally ready to release it to the world. We’ve set up this page on the Restless website so that you and your friends can come download the tracks. The title for this EP is FLOOD. Every instrument was recorded using my laptop and personal recording equipment. Here’s a track by track synopsis or just download all the tracks right here :
Intro (For a Christmas CD) : the title says it all really. I wrote this little instrumental piece for a mix CD exchange we did back in Christmas. I wanted to add a personal touch the mix CD I made. I might make an actually song with this one day. My Friends : isn’t specifically about my friends, but more about how friends are important to me. This is the first song I ever tried recording on my home studio, and ended up being the third song I finished. I had a hard time finishing it; I messed around with the drums for a long time before I decided it was done.
Paz : means peace in English. In a way I was trying to use war as a metaphor for being in a relationship. Kinda silly really, but in the end I though it just sounded really good and didn’t want to change anything about it. It’s all about the beat in this song; some of you might recognize it as a reggeaton beat. The idea of using this beat had been kicking around in my head for a while. Once I came up with the repeating bass line, I knew I had another song.
Little Lies : isn’t based on any personal experience but that of two people that were really close to me. It’s your typical love story gone wrong: I love you but you don’t love me. This was the first song that I finished recording. My favourite part of the song is the bass line that only comes in towards the end. I could listen to that part over and over.
We’ll Coincide : is my first effort to make a “rock” song. I started with the guitar chords, then the solo guitar parts. I wanted the bass to have a big part in the music too, so I worked a lot on making it fit well with what I had. The lyrics came last, like in most of the songs I wrote. Honestly, I just wanted to make them fun, and make them fit well with the music. Do they have a deeper meaning? Maybe, please let me know if you figure it out!
No Sleep : was written for Val. It perfectly reflects a moment we had this summer where she’d be off to work, and I stayed in bed. She wasn’t getting much sleep because I’d still get her to stay up late with me. For the music, I threw in some xylophone to bring lightness to the song. Xylophone SOLO WOOHOO!
Move Along : has almost like a dance beat to it. I wanted to bring it back to a more rocking world with the distorted guitars and basses. I think it worked, let me know if I pulled it off or not... The lyrics came last for this song too. Lyrics that at first were about me quickly changed to a story about a friend of mine and his lack of effort.
