| FFX – November 2009 The Restless crew and I were invited to set up a booth at FFX. It’s a short extreme sport movie festival organized by la VIDA, the action sport club of HEC University. As usual, we jumped on the opportunity to show off our boards to the adrenaline junkies assembled to watch the movies. Surfing, snowboarding, skateboarding and longboarding headlined the event. While the different brands, such as Salomon and QuickSilver, finished setting up shop, the line up grew longer and longer outside the doors. Once the clock struck six, the doors opened and the students came flooding in. We got to meet and hang out with a bunch of cool cats from different Universities and associations. We ran into a couple of downhill riders from France, some great sliders from Quebec City and some up and coming riders from Toronto. Overall, 300 people attended the event. It’s safe to say that it was a great success. With a cold FREE beer in one hand and a slice of pizza in the other (one the perks of being an exhibitor), we watched the movies in awe. My favorite one was filmed by some local riders from the Montreal longboard association. It had some great shots that just made me want to get the hell out of the there and bomb down some hills. Afterwards, I showed off my MC skills and gave away some Restless goodies to the crowd. We then grabbed a last beer and packed up for the night. With the images of the movies still fresh in our minds, we decided to get a session going with a few of the riders we had met. Conveniently, the event was that it was located right near Mont-Royal. It’s one of the best places to go ride in Montreal and we tore it up with those guys. My highlight of the night was trying out a sick carbon fiber downhill board that one of the students had brought with him. It definitely got my creative juices flowing. The Restless crew is going to be working on a new prototype for the next season. Can’t wait to see what we come up with. I would like to thank the organizers for a great event. Good movies, good music and most importantly, a great vibe. I can guarantee that the Restless crew will be back next year. Cheers, Al
